The champion Untapable delivered her first foal, a colt by Frankel, in England over the weekend, and will remain overseas for the immediate future to be bred back to Frankel. The chestnut colt’s arrival was reported on Twitter by David Fiske, manager for Winchell Thoroughbreds, which campaigned Untapable as a homebred. The mare is the highest-earning female by perennial leading sire Tapit, whom the Winchells campaigned and maintain an interest in at Gainesway Farm. Untapable, a Grade 2 winner as a juvenile, earned the Eclipse Award as champion 3-year-old filly of 2014, when she went unbeaten against her own sex, marked by signature triumphs in the Kentucky Oaks and Breeders’ Cup Distaff. The Steve Asmussen trainee posted additional Grade 1 scores that season in the Mother Goose – by 9 1/4 lengths – and Cotillion. Untapable’s other Grade 1 victory and lone win following that 2014 campaign came in the 2015 Apple Blossom. Frankel, by international titan Galileo, stands at owner-breeder Juddmonte’s Banstead Manor Stud in Newmarket. Runners from the young stallion’s first two crops have already earned more than $10 million, with racetrack accomplishments led by two-time Japanese champion Soul Stirring, Group 1 winner Cracksman, and group stakes winners Cunco, Elarqam, Eminent, Fair Eva, Finche, Frankuus, Lady Frankel, Last Kingdom, Mi Suerte, Monarchs Glen, Nelson, Queen Kindly, Rostropovich, and Toulifaut. Untapable raced on dirt, although she is a half-sister to Paddy O’Prado, a Grade 1 winner on turf. Their dam is Broodmare of the Year Fun House. :: DRF BREEDING LIVE: Real-time coverage of breeding and sales
