United Nations Stakes: By the numbers

Grade 1, $500,000 United Nations; 1 3/8 miles, turf; Monmouth Park
Sunday, race 12, post time: 6:13 p.m. Eastern

Speed: As can be expected in a turf marathon, there isn’t an abundance of speed in here. Twilight Eclipse could find himself in front.
Mid-pack: At this distance, Kaigun, Winning Cause, and Lochte may have a bit more tactical speed than Side Glance, Charming Kitten, or Manchurian High. If you look at Main Sequence’s past performances, he has had trouble at times at the start of his races in Great Britain.
Closers: Ghurair, Exclusive Strike

Exclusive Strike has 12 wins, and Side Glance has eight. Both are winless in their last five starts.

Side Glance, $2.4 million; Twilight Eclipse, $724,000

Beyer Speed Figures
Lifetime: Lochte (104), Twilight Eclipse (103), Kaigun (100)
Last race: Kaigun (100)

Side Glance received a 95 for his Arlington Million third last summer and a 99 for his fourth-place finish in the 2011 – yes, 2011 – Woodbine Mile. Main Sequence makes U.S. debut.
