Unique Bella's easy victory in the Santa Maria earned a 109 Beyer Speed Figure.

Champion female sprinter Unique Bella earned a 109 Beyer Speed Figure for her authoritative score in the Grade 2 Santa Maria Stakes on Feb. 10, helping her sire Tapit further pad his early lead in multiple Beyer Sire Performance standings this season.

While Unique Bella was the first runner by Tapit to earn a three-digit Beyer this year, her effort was also one of 13 to earn a figure of 90 or higher through Feb. 12, putting the sire five ahead of next-closest Candy Ride and Munnings at eight. Those figures have been earned by 12 different horses, also the most of the year so far.

Tapit, a 17-year-old son of Pulpit and resident of Gainesway, is also the early leader of 2018 by 90-plus efforts on dirt (seven) and by fillies (six), and is tied with Kitten’s Joy for the most over turf, with six.
