Union Rags was the only sire to have two foals bring $900,000 or more.

Union Rags got out of the gate fast with his first crop of runners, now 3-year-olds, and buyers kept that in mind with his second crop at the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Co. March sale of 2-year-olds in training.

The 8-year-old son of Dixie Union led all sires with three juveniles sold for $500,000 or more and was the only sire to have two foals bring $900,000 or more.

Leading the way was a Maryland-bred colt out of the stakes-winning Afleet Alex mare Alexandra Rylee who sold to bloodstock agent Dennis O’Neill for $950,000 late during Tuesday’s opening session. Not far behind was a $900,000 colt out of the Indian Charlie mare Delightfully So who went to Steven Young as agent.

Rounding out the half-million-dollar trio was a $685,000 half-brother to recent Grade 2 winner Tequilita, out of the Grade 2-winning Mr. Greeley mare Sangrita. Trainer Simon Callaghan signed for the colt as agent.

Union Rags stands at Lane’s End in Versailles, Ky., for an advertised fee of $50,000. He has had 36 juveniles sell at public auction for an average price of $216,417.
