Unbridled colt leads F-T opener

LEXINGTON, Ky. - As of 4:45 p.m. Eastern on Monday, a $360,000 colt by recently deceased sire Unbridled was the top lot on opening day at Fasig-Tipton Kentucky's October yearling sale in Lexington.

Trainer Niall O'Callaghan signed as agent for the colt, who is out of the stakes-winner Debit My Account. The colt is the first foal for his dam, a Classic Account mare who earned $448,642. Viking Stud (Rick Littrell), agent, consigned the chestnut colt.

Unbridled, champion 3-year-old and winner of the 1990 Kentucky Derby and Breeders' Cup Classic, was euthanized last Thursday after a severe case of colic. A 14-year-old Fappiano horse, sire of champions Banshee Breeze and Anees, he had undergone two abdominal surgeries in September.

Two other lots brought six-figure bids, but both were bought back. Hip No. 172, a Pulpit filly out of stakes-producer Frisson (Fappiano), returned to consignor Highclere Sales, agent, on a $140,000 bid. Later, Hip No. 207, an Awesome Again half-brother to Grade 2 winner Sovereign Kitty, went back to consignor Denali Stud (Craig Bandoroff), agent, after a final bid of $190,000.

The sale was to continue through Tuesday, with a continuous session beginning at 10 a.m.
