U S Officer is proving to be a seven-furlong specialist. He cut back to the distance for Saturday night's $50,000 Ragin Cajun at Evangeline Downs and rallied for a 1 1/4-length win over 3-5 favorite and pacesetter Laughingsaintssong.

It was the second seven-furlong stakes win for U S Officer, who won the Clever Trevor at the distance last November at Remington Park.

U S Officer ($6.80) settled off the pace in the Ragin Cajun as Laughingsaintssong set pressured fractions of 22.56 seconds for the opening quarter and 45.11 for the half-mile. U S Officer overtook while covering the distance on a fast track in 1:24.54.

Diego Saenz was aboard the winner for trainer Danny Pish.

U S Officer has now won four of nine starts for earnings of $166,565. He is a son of U S Ranger and races for his breeder, Jerry Durant, and Bill Jordan.

The Ragin Cajun was scratched down to four starters; there was no show wagering.
