Two top picks sired by BC Mile winners

EmailLAS VEGAS - The Cigar Mile, Clark Handicap, and Hollywood Derby may be the feature events this Thanksgiving weekend, but it's the

2-year-olds who rule at every major racetrack around the country.

Churchill Downs leads the baby parade with its exclusive "Stars of Tomorrow II" program on Saturday, showcasing juveniles in all 12 of its races, including the Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes for colts and Golden Rod Stakes for fillies, both at 1 1/16 miles on dirt.

Aqueduct's two major juvenile races are the Remsen Stakes for colts and Demoiselle Stakes for fillies, both at nine furlongs on dirt.

Hollywood will card Grade 3, one-mile grass stakes for 2-year-olds of both sexes this weekend - the Generous for males on Friday and the Miesque for fillies on Saturday. Listed alphabetically, the following are the probables for both races:

Generous Stakes

Adriano: A.P. Indy colt is out of the Mr. Prospector mare Gold Canyon, a half-sister to Belmont Stakes winner Bet Twice, by grass champion Theatrical.

Coastal Eddy: His sire, Hussonet (Mr. Prospector out of champion Sacahuista), was only stakes-placed but was a champion sire in Chile from 2000-05 as well as champion freshman sire in 1998. His dam is out of the speed/turf influence Valid Appeal and second dam is by the Northern Dancer stallion Danzatore.

Gone Grand: By hidden turf (HT) sire Grand Slam (Gone West), his dam is a half-sister to Chief Seattle by Miswaki.

Indian Sun: This is a sneaky good grass pedigree. By Indian Charlie (In Excess), he is out of a mare by two-time Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe winner Alleged, and his second dam is by turf influence Northjet.

Make Them Break: By freshman sire Sunday Break, his dam is by Dynaformer and second dam is multiple stakes winner Gray Cashmere (Relaunch).

Meer Kat: Powerful turf pedigree as he's by Red Ransom and out of a Kingmambo mare. His second dam is by Danzig and third dam is by Tom Rolfe (Ribot). In addition, his fourth dam, Sister Shu, was a full sister to Hall of Fame member Shuvee.

Race the Moon: By Danetime, one of Danehill's best sons, he is out of a mare by Lear Fan and this European has obvious turf pedigree. Other grass influences up close in his pedigree are Bigstone, Tap on Wood, and Herbager.

Robscarvic: His relatively obscure sire, Statue of Liberty, was a Group 3-winning half-brother to Lemon Drop Kid by Storm Cat, and his first two dams are by grass influences Lycius and Diatome.

Spinning Sound: Has the best grass pedigree in the race. Not only is he by Breeders' Cup Mile winner Spinning World, he is an RF (Rasmussen Factor) as he is exquisitely inbred 5x5 to 1982 Broodmare of the Year Best in Show through her influential daughters Minnie Hauk (Sir Ivor) and Sex Appeal (Buckpasser). Minnie Hauk is the dam of Aviance, who produced English and French champion Chimes of Freedom (dam of Aldebaran, Good Journey, Tomisue's Indy, and Sea of Showers), Denon, and Imperfect Circle (dam of Spinning World), while Sex Appeal produced multiple champion El Gran Senor, Try My Best, Compliance, Solar (second dam of Strong Hope), and Fayrooz, the second dam of this colt.

The Leopard: By Storm Cat, his dam is a full sister to Scan and his second dam, Video (Nijinsky II), is a full sister to European champion Caerleon.

Yes It's a Cat: By HT influence Tactical Cat (Storm Cat), he is out of a mare by speed sire Fortunate Prospect.

Selections: Spinning Sound, Race the Moon, Meer Kat, The Leopard

Miesque Stakes

Carnival Queen: Her sire is Group 3 winner Carnival Dancer, a son of Sadler's Wells out of a full sister to champion Golden Attraction, and her first three dams are by strong turf influences Irish River, Lear Fan, and Be My Guest.

Excitement: By multiple European champion Xaar, she descends from Miss Grillo, and this female family produced Irish Derby winner Meadow Court.

Ididntmeantoo: By Fusaichi Pegasus, she is out of Rampart winner Bella Chiarra.

La Mina: From the first crop of Mineshaft, she is unbeaten in two grass starts and her first three dams are by Red Ransom, Woodman, and Nijinsky II.

Macellya: By Testa Rossa (a grandson of Danzig), she is out of a mare by Machiavellian, and her second dam is a half-sister to Defensive Play. This female line also produced the exciting 2-year-old colt Turn Away (Empire Maker).

Runforthemoneylady: Full sister to Spenditallbaby, she has solid grass pedigree, by Unusual Heat and out of a Dynaformer mare.

Sea Chanter: Epitome Stakes winner is by BC Mile winner War Chant and out of the stakes-winning Easy Goer mare Smooth Charmer. Fourth dam is champion racemare and broodmare Numbered Account.

Set Play: Del Mar Debutante winner should be even more effective on grass as she's by Van Nistelrooy and her second dam is a half-sister to stakes winner With a Twist.

Selections: Sea Chanter, Set Play, La Mina, Macellya
