Two in top form for Breeders Classics preps

EmailDarth Tater and We're in the Money have both sharp form and good bloodlines in their favor going into Saturday's final two local preps at Charles Town for next month's West Virginia Breeders Classics program. Both stakes are restricted to West Virginia-accredited horses nominated to the Breeders Classics series on Oct. 20.

Darth Tater brings the best Beyer Speed Figure, a 61 earned for his 15 1/2-length romp over maidens in his first try beyond 4 1/2 furlongs, into the $50,000 Dr. Ernest Benner for 2-year-olds going 6 1/2 furlongs. He's also a full brother to Longfield Spud, who won the Benner and the West Virginia Futurity in 2002.

In the $50,000 Golden Gull-Chris Brown Memorial for 2-year-old fillies, We're in the Money appears formidable after winning the Cinderella Stakes earlier this month. Her sire, Why Why Why, was an exceptional 2-year-old, winning the Grade 1 Futurity, Grade 2 Sanford, and Grade 3 Flash.
