Two stakes swap spots

Santa Anita has essentially swapped the dates of two major 3-year-old stakes for the track's upcoming winter-spring meeting, which runs from Dec. 26 to April 18. Overall, 60 stakes have been scheduled.

The Grade 2 San Rafael Stakes over a mile has been moved from early March to Jan. 15. The purse has been cut $50,000, to $150,000. Conversely, the Grade 2 Santa Catalina Stakes over 1 1/16 miles has been moved from January to March 5. The purse has been increased $50,000, to $200,000.

The Grade 2 San Vicente Stakes over seven furlongs has been pushed back a week, to Feb. 13. The position of the $250,000 San Felipe Stakes over 1 1/16 miles on March 19 was not altered. It remains the final major prep to the $750,000 Santa Anita Derby over 1 1/8 miles on April 9.

The purses for four races have been increased by $25,000 - the Sir Beaufort, Sham, and Irish O'Brien stakes and the Sensational Star Handicap. Two are worth $50,000 less - the Frank Kilroe Mile and San Luis Obispo Handicap.

The Pro or Con Handicap for statebred fillies and mares on turf has been canceled.

The richest race is the $1 million Santa Anita Handicap on March 5.
