Two seem favored by fast pace

VANCOUVER, British Columbia - Long Journey and Beckenbauer figure to take advantage of what figures to be a lively pace in the feature race at Hastings Sunday. The 1 1/16-mile allowance race for 3-year-olds drew seven horses and goes as the seventh race.

Trained by Steve Henson, Long Journey is coming off of a very good effort in the 1 1/16-mile Chris Loseth Handicap July 8. He made a strong move in the stretch to finish third behind Ookashada. Long Journey lost by 1 1/4 lengths in the Chris Loseth and he might have been closer if he hadn't been forced to steady just when he was gearing up approaching the quarter pole.

With speedsters And All That Jazz, Big Shiny and Kadence in the field, Long Journey is pretty much guaranteed an honest pace to work with Sunday. Frank Fuentes rides Long Journey.

Beckenbauer, who is trained by Dino Condilenios, also finished strongly in the Chris Loseth, and he could have been closer with a better trip. He was making a strong move around the stretch turn, but with traffic in front of him he lost some momentum when he angled out to go three wide.

Dave Wilson picks up the mount from Mario Gutierrez, who will be aboard Sir Gallovic.

Sir Gallovic, who will be making his first start for trainer Troy Taylor, has been racing exclusively in New York. He's coming off of a win in a one-mile $60,000 maiden race where he was involved right from the start.
