Two in row for Beau Dare

A determined Beau Dare dug in gamely to earn a second straight stakes win at Monmouth Park, holding off Sophie's Salad in the $60,000 Klassy Briefcase Stakes for filly-and-mare turf sprinters.

Breaking on top from the outside post in the 5 1/2-furlong race under Stewart Elliott, Beau Dare ($6.20) set the pace with Sophie's Salad closely tracking her every step. They finished that way, with Beau Dare prevailing by a half-length.

"She broke so good that I put her right on the front end," Elliott said. "She went to the front and started rolling. That other horse came up and challenged us in the stretch, but I felt I had enough horse left, and I did."

Beau Dare, a 5-year-old trained by Bruce Levine, captured the Candy Eclair Stakes here last month. The win was her fourth in her last five races.

The time was 1:01.85 on the firm course.

Don't Stop Dreamin got third, followed by Fancy Diamond, Sheets, Acinonyx, Lizzierna, and Clay's Angel.
