Two notables return to Finger Lakes

Motor City Mama and Mother Russia return to Finger Lakes for the first time since a series of good races during the 2008 season in Saturday's $50,000 Susan B. Anthony Handicap, a six-furlong sprint for New York-bred fillies and mares.

The 7-year-old Motor City Mama, from the barn of leading trainer Chris Englehart, won back-to-back starts at Finger Lakes in August and October of 2008. She comes into the Susan B. Anthony off consecutive wins at Aqueduct and Belmont Park.

Mother Russia won the $156,000 Lady Finger as a 2-year-old in September 2008 and finished third a month later against males in the $318,000 New York Breeders Futurity. Trained by Linda Rice, she went on to win 5 of 7 starts at 3. Mother Russia will be making her first start since November.

The 11-horse field also includes Bob's Dylan, who led wire to wire in last year's Susan B. Anthony. She returns to Finger Lakes, where she is 8 for 16 lifetime, after winning a sprint on the Tapeta at Presque Isle Downs on May 29.

◗ John Grabowski, 44, a six-time riding champion at Finger Lakes, will be sidelined for at least two months with injuries sustained in a spill in last Saturday's ninth race. Grabowski is being treated for a fractured collarbone, multiple broken ribs, and a punctured lung.
