Two horses die in Walden barn fire

Two horses died in a barn fire last week at Elliott Walden's residence in eastern Louisville, the trainer said Wednesday. The 7-year-old former racehorse Hyde Park and a pony died in the blaze.

Hyde Park had been cared for by Walden's wife, Rebecca, after the horse's racing career concluded. Originally raced in South America, he won one of five starts in the United States while being trained by Walden in 2001. The pony belonged to his daughter, Emily.

"We're all disappointed," Walden said. "But it could have been a lot worse. Somebody could have been hurt."

He said fire officials believe the fire was caused by an electrical problem.
