Two former champs on list for Mile

AUBURN, Wash - Eleven graded stakes winners, including two former winners, are among the 25 horses nominated to the Grade 3, $250,000 Longacres Mile on Aug. 21 at Emerald Downs.

Former Mile winners among the nominees are Sabertooth, who won in 2002, and Adreamisborn, the defending champ.

Adreamisborn's trainer, Jerry Hollendorfer, also nominated Yougottawanna, whose $671,099 in career earnings tops the list. Yougottawanna would appear the more likely of the Hollendorfer-trained duo to run, as Adreamisborn won at Santa Rosa just last Saturday.

Sabertooth's trainer, four-time Mile winner Jim Penney, also nominated Turbin and Mt. Rainier Breeders' Cup Handicap winner Flamethrowintexan.

Other locals with eyes on the Mile prize are Poker Brad, Mr. Makaw, and R. Associate.

Among potential California invaders are Beau Soleil, Desert Boom, Harvard Avenue, Minister Eric, Preachinatthebar, Skipaslew, Keep on Punching, and Harvard Avenue.

Beau Soleil, who has won 6 of 12 starts, is owned by Jeffrey Sengara and trained by Ted West, who won 1999 Mile with Budroyale.

Preachinatthebar races for owner Mike Pegram and trainer Bob Baffert, who won the first Longacres Mile run at Emerald Downs with Isitingood in 1996.

Harvard Avenue and Skipaslew are trained by Doug O'Neill, who won the 2003 Mile with Sky Jack.
