Two-day pick six carryover of $167,021 on Friday

Email

CYPRESS, Calif. – The pick six proved too tough at Los Alamitos on Thursday, leading to a two-day carryover of $167,021 for Friday’s eight-race program.

First post is 2 p.m. Pacific.

The pick six carryover was announced after Thursday’s seventh race, with one race remaining.

On Friday, the pick six races have fields of 11, 7, 8, 9, 5, and 11.

In the eighth race, Social Status has been scratched, the only withdrawal at early scratch time.

Five of the six races are sprints over 5 1/2 or six furlongs. The seventh race, a starter allowance, is run over a mile. The sprints include three for maiden claimers, a $16,000 claimer and an $8,000 claimer.

this track should stick to quarter horses instead of trying to make thoroubreds into quarter horses..5 of 6 races at 5 1/2 furlongs is not real horse racing.period

I know in the racing industry the pick 6 the way it is run is considered successful....and I can't argue...when there is a big carry over it does generate excitement and big payoffs. However, I would like to say, I truly think if they made the pick 6 a $ 1.00 bet and lowered the takeout by a couple of percentage points, the pick 6 handle would be so much greater the track would generate more excitement and larger handle. Years ago, pre pick 6, the racetrack had no vested interest in the outcome of the races, as they are getting their take anyway. Part of the problem is now racetracks benefit from carryovers and they know it. This , in my opinion, is not good. I know that there is an unspoken, and secret belief, in the minds of many of us long time horse players that racetracks create carryovers, especially coming up to big Saturday cards. Now, I do know that this is NOT true....but, if you ask many of us...we kind of see it a lot...and maybe think it could be true. This is NOT good. Horse players need to know that each race is on the up and up. Make the pick 6 a $ 1.00 bet, the pool will get LARGER...and yes, it will be hit daily and not have as many carryovers, but, more of us would play it.

Real race track? For prestige, whatever but I guess you're not much of a handicapper. I've made more profit so far with LA than the previous two months at SA. I didn't buy into the "long stretch so closers will do well" theory everyone was touting. I play the track just like Fairplex. Anytime more unknown factors are present, this invariably produces more value and wagering opportunities.

What a crock.Del mar has been a mess from a gambling standpoint since going synthetic. It has been safer for the horses ,a mess for the horseplayers as a whole.Non stop multi-day pick six carryovers because of formless horses winning.Your comment should read the real race track opens DEL MAR 2015!
