LEXINGTON, Ky. - Keeneland's April 2-year-old sale, the last major select juvenile auction of the season, was to begin Monday night in Lexington at 7 p.m.

The two-day sale had 145 entries still remaining on Monday afternoon after scratches whittled the catalog down from 216 horses.

Keeneland will stream the two-night sale live on its website at , and HRTV also will broadcast the auction live both nights.

The 2008 auction sold 77 horses for a total of $16,299,000, resulting in a $211,675 average price and a $150,000 median. The sale topper was the $800,000 Storm Cat-Here I Go colt named Don Gato. Mamet Gusseynov (Hanzly Albina, agent) purchased the colt from Hartley/De Renzo Thoroughbreds.

This year's sale takes place in a select juvenile auction season that has seen prices roughly 30 percent lower than last year, due in part to the general economic recession.
