Two California positives for clenbuterol found


Fighter on Fire, the winner of the $182,600 El Primero Del Ano Derby at Los Alamitos on April 11, tested positive for an excessive level of clenbuterol in the Grade 2 race for Quarter Horses, according to a statement released over the weekend by the California Horse Racing Board.

Fighter on Fire won his first graded stakes in the El Primero Del Ano Derby for 3-year-old colts and geldings over 400 yards, earning $76,692. A hearing in the case will be held Saturday. Trainer Adan Farias faces a possible sanction, and the race may be subject to a redistributed purse.

Indian Weaver, runner-up in the first race at Bay Meadows on April 11, has tested in excess of the permitted level of clenbuterol. Indian Weaver ran second in a six-furlong race for $25,000 claimers, earnings $5,200. Trainer Cirilo Sierra faces possible sanction and the purse could be redistributed. A hearing is scheduled for June 13.

Clenbuterol is a bronchial dilator used to aid breathing problems.
