Two $1M mares at Tattersalls

A pair of million-dollar mares were the highlights Wednesday at the Tattersalls December auction of mares and mixed stock in Newmarket, England.

Group 1-winning racemare Frizzante and the broodmare Ebaraya each brought 500,000 guineas, or about $1,002,750.

The London Thoroughbred Services agency purchased Frizzante, a 5-year-old Efisio mare, for an undisclosed client. Ebaraya, a 5-year-old Sadler's Wells mare sold in foal to Machiavellian, went to Ira Gumberg's Skara Glen Stables, represented by Irish agent John McCormack.

Pegasus Stables consigned Frizzante on behalf of a partnership. Pegasus Farms Ltd. of Ireland sold Ebaraya to dissolve her owners' partnership.

The session, the third of four, sold 189 lots for about $18,537,037, resulting in an average price of about $98,079 and a median of about $50,138. Compared year-to-year in the local auction currency of guineas, the totals were declines of 29 percent, 23 percent, and 19 percent, respectively.
