Twisted Wit upsets Vandal Stakes

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Twisted Wit overhauled 1-2 favorite Stormthebarricade in deep stretch to capture the $163,350 Vandal Stakes for Canadian-bred 2-year-olds at Woodbine Sunday.

With David Clark aboard, Twisted Wit stalked the pace set by Stormthebarricade, who got splits of :22.50 and :46.11 in the six-furlong dash. Stormthebarricade opened up a clear lead at the head of the stretch, but began to stagger with an eighth of a mile left, and was overtaken by Twisted Wit, who completed the distance in a slow 1:13.37. Executive Willie was third in the seven-horse field.

"My horse likes to run at horses," said Clark. "At the eighth pole,(Stormthebarricade) began to slow down, and my horse just continued on. He's a little green. He's still learning the game."

Twisted Wit ($11.30) is now unbeaten in two starts. A son of Distorted Humor, he earned $98,010 for owner Rolph Davis and trainer Bob Tiller.

* Favored Seeking the Ring ($3.20) set slow fractions en route to a one-length score over Kabul in Sunday's supporting feature, the $105,000 Northernette Stakes for 3-year-old fillies. Todd Kabel rode Seeking the Ring, who ran a mile and a sixteenth in 1:45.96. It was the third stakes win of the weekend for the combination of Kabel, Sam-Son Farm and trainer Mark Frostad.
