Twin bill of $750K stakes

Hollywood Park will run two $750,000 races - the Grade 1 American Oaks and the Grade 2 CashCall Mile - as part of a five-stakes program on July 5, the track announced earlier this week. Hollywood Park is offering 55 stakes worth $8.5 million for the spring-summer meeting that runs from April 23 to July 13.

In 2007, the CashCall Futurity and American Oaks were run on consecutive days. This year, they will headline a program that includes the Grade 1 Triple Bend Handicap, Grade 1 Vanity Handicap, and Grade 3 Hollywood Juvenile Championship.

The five stakes are worth a combined $2.2 million, a record for a non-Breeders' Cup Day at Hollywood Park.

The $750,000 Hollywood Gold Cup will be run on Saturday, June 28, as part of a four-stakes day. The June 28 and July 5 programs continue a trend at Hollywood Park of grouping several major stakes on one day. The first such day is the California Gold Rush program on April 27, which includes 10 stakes worth $1.31 million for California-breds.

Last year, the stakes program was worth $8.7 million. The 2007 CashCall Mile was worth $1 million.

The track has added one new race this year - the $100,000 Gallant Man Stakes over 1 5/8 miles on June 1. The race is designed as a prep to the Breeders' Cup Dirt Marathon, which will be run for the first time at the Breeders' Cup at the Oak Tree at Santa Anita meeting in the fall.
