TVG, the horserace broadcasting company and account-wagering operator, was launched on Friday in high-definition on the AT&T U-Verse subscription television platform, the company said.

The launch is the first full-time HD offering of the network on a television platform, TVG said. The network has been broadcast in high-definition for several hours on local cable services in Southern California, but not on a full-time basis.

TVG built a high-definition studio several years ago and has urged racetracks to upgrade to high-definition equipment, but its efforts to get its channel in HD slots on major cable and satellite networks have not yet been successful.

AT&T U-Verse is a niche product that has approximately 4.5 million subscribers, according to the latest data from AT&T. It is available in 21 states, according to the company.

AT&T recently bought DirecTV, the satellite television provider. TVG is available on DirecTV in standard definition.
