Turfway: Tempus Fugit goes wire to wire

Tempus Fugit, on the lead the whole way, met the challenge of heavily favored Golden Marlin, then pulled away to win the $50,000 Likely Exchange Stakes at Turfway Park.

Ridden by Orlando Mojica, Tempus Fugit sped straight to an open lead in the one-mile Likely Exchange, tracked closest by 45-1 shot Moonlit Romance. Meanwhile, Golden Marlin, who had a great stalking trip under Dean Sarvis, edged nearly abreast of the front-runner at the quarter pole, but Tempus Fugit had plenty in reserve and pulled away to win by 3 1/4 lengths.

The 5-year-old Tempus Fugit ($9.80) finished in 1:37.85 over a good track.

Golden Marlin finished second by another 4 3/4 lengths over Evil Eye Aly in a field of 10 fillies and mares. Golden Marlin had captured the Wishing Well at Turfway in her previous start, capping a solid series of efforts and landing her the role as the 4-5 favorite Saturday.

The Likely Exchange was the first stakes victory for Tempus Fugit, who is owned by Briland Farm and has been trained since August by Bernie Flint, Turfway's all-time leader in nearly every training category. Tempus Fugit has won 5 of 22 overall starts and earned slightly more than $200,000.
