Turfway: Stoneway wire to wire

After shaking loose to an uncontested early lead, Stoneway had no difficulty outlasting nine opponents in the $50,000 Cincinnati Trophy for 3-year-old fillies at Turfway Park.

Stoneway ($27.40) assumed command from the opening strides under jockey Mike Rowland, and set reasonable fractions of 22.67 and 46 seconds over a rain-soaked surface labeled wet-fast. She opened a five-length lead in midstretch and held on by two lengths. She raced 6 1/2 furlongs in 1:19.67.

Beau Watch and favored Plumlake Lady rallied late, with Beau Watch outfinishing Plumlake Lady by a neck for second. Leading Lioness, winner of last month's Gowell Stakes at Turfway, was never a factor and finished sixth.

The race was delayed a little more than five minutes when leading rider Rafael Bejarano was tossed from his mount, Plumlake Lady, in the paddock. He took a few minutes to recover from his fall and rode the race.
