Turfway: Silver Minister cruises

Silver Minister staked his claim as the leader of the 3-year-old division at Turfway Park, winning the one-mile, $50,000 WEBN Frog Stakes by 5 1/4 lengths.

Under a confident ride by Rafael Bejarano, Silver Minister stalked the early pace of Danieltown, turned back a momentary bid from Rubiano Lad leaving the turn, and drew away in the stretch.

Revolver Six and Dollar Dip finished belatedly for second and third, edging Rubiano Lad in a three-way photo. Iron Rogue, Commandment, Tricky Taboo, and Peter the Rock were scratched.

In winning his second consecutive stakes race, Silver Minister raced a mile under snowy conditions in 1:41.98 and paid $3.80 as the favorite. He has won 3 of 5 starts and $94,490 for owners Lloyd Madison Farms and trainer Greg Foley.

* The three races that were scheduled to follow the WEBN, including the Likely Exchange Stakes, were canceled due to unsafe track conditions.

The horses left the paddock for the post parade of the Likely Exchange, the 10th race, but their riders returned them to the paddock, and the cancellation of racing was announced.
