Turfway Park: $32.40 upsetter

EmailIt was hard to fault Exciting Justice's record as the 3-year-old filly stepped up into her first stakes race in the $75,000 Weekend Delight for fillies and mares at Turfway Park.

She came in with 2 wins and 1 second in 4 starts, and she came out a winner. The only surprise, perhaps, was her payoff, $32.40.

Ridden by Terry Thompson for trainer Joe Cain and owner Justice Farm, Weekend Delight broke in midpack in the nine-horse field going six furlongs, moved from fourth to second on the turn, caught the 2-1 pacesetting favorite, Marina Ballerina, a furlong from home, and pulled away to win by 3 1/4 lengths.

Marina Ballerina held second by 1 3/4 lengths over Over the Edge. The time was 1:10.42.

Sired by Glitterman out of the Avenue of Flags mare Exciting Avenue, Exciting Justice better than doubled her earnings to $80,915.
