Turfway: 'Golden' ends drought

Graded stakes winner Golden Marlin, winless over her final seven starts of 2004, regained her winning form at Turfway Park, taking the $50,000 Wishing Well Stakes by a length over pacesetter Jinny's Gold.

With Jinny's Gold racing uncontested on the lead, Golden Marlin needed one of her best efforts to win, and she delivered. After stalking the pace in fourth behind a fast opening quarter-mile in 21.72 seconds, she advanced into second as Jinny's Gold carved out a half-mile in 44.13. Golden Marlin gradually wore the leader down under jockey Dean Sarvis, completing six furlongs in 1:09.11 over a track rated good.

Although Jinny's Gold tired in the final furlong, she held on to be second, 4 1/2 lengths in front of third-place Moonlit Romance.

Golden Marlin ($3.20), a 5-year-old trained by Greg Foley, won for the seventh time in 24 starts, pushing her earnings to $379,667.
