Turfway: Final Copy dominates

Capitalizing on a seasoning edge, Final Copy rallied from sixth to win the $50,000 Turfway Prevue by 3 1/4 Lengths over Warrior Within.

The winningest 3-year-old in the 11-horse field with three victories heading into the race, Final Copy settled in a perfect position early, stalking the pace while three others engaged in a battle up front. As the leaders began to tire after setting fractions of 23.77 and 47.24 seconds over the tiring Polytrack surface, he began to advance under Jesus Castanon, and once into the stretch, the race was quickly over.

Final Copy ($4.40), a son of Souvenir Copy, extended his lead through the lane, completing 6 1/2 furlongs in 1:19.38.

Warrior Within, who battled between horses for much of the race, was a brave runner-up, finishing 5 1/4 lengths in front of Rock' N Fire. Skeleton Crew, the second betting choice, ran fourth.

The winner, trained by Greg Foley, pushed his record to 4 for 7 for owner-breeder Donamire Farm. The $31,300 winner's share of the purse boosted his earnings to $97,671.

The Turfway Prevue, the first of four stakes for 3-year-old males this winter and spring at Turfway, is followed by the one-mile WEBN Stakes on Feb. 4, the 1 1/16-mile John Battaglia Memorial on March 4, and the 1 1/8-mile Lane's End on March 25.
