Turfway: Classical Ryder 4 for 4

Classical Ryder rallies to win the $50,000 Valdale Stakes at Turfway Park on Saturday.

Classical Ryder stayed unbeaten in four career starts when she rallied from far back to post a one-length victory in the $50,000 Valdale Stakes at Turfway Park in Florence, Ky.

Ridden by Eddie Martin Jr., Classical Ryder returned $18.40 after finishing one mile in 1:41.47 over Polytrack. The winner is owned by Gail Hughes and Gerald Selbach and is trained by Donald Hughes.

Anna Dana seemingly had the Valdale won after taking command from several tired front-runners, but she couldn't withstand the torrid late run by Classical Ryder, a Brahms filly whose every start has come at Turfway. Prior to the Valdale, she won a maiden-claiming race, a $30,000 claiming race, and a first-level allowance. Martin has been aboard every time.

* One race earlier, Gallant Secret ($3.40) won an allowance prep for the March 11 Wintergreen Stakes under the meet's leading rider, apprentice Julien Leparoux.
