Turf Paradise: Three face charges after attempted burglary

Email

Two men and a woman were arrested for burglary in a bizarre incident at Turf Paradise on Sunday morning.

Phoenix police were called by track security about an hour before the track opened for simulcast wagering as Turf Paradise is dark now.

The woman – reportedly five months pregnant – was discovered in the ceiling where she was tangled up in cords and wire and calling for help. She was allegedly trying to gain access to the money room, where she was then to open the door for two men.

Police said the men hoisted her through a ventilation space, and she made it about 50 feet before she got tangled and ceiling tiles gave way. Security noticed the clamor and called police who arrested the men.

According to police, the trio concocted the odd plan hours earlier when they damaged the tires on their car. Michael Darling, 42, and Fausto Camargo, 19, were arrested with second-degree burglary. Darling also faces drug possession charges. Police said one of the men had a flare gun.

Police have not yet divulged the name of the pregnant woman, who was taken to the hospital as she told police she feared she might be going into labor. She will be charged once released from the hospital.
