Turf Paradise: Rule by Force finishes fast in Bienvenidos

Local stalwart Rule by Force beat a number of talented shippers as the 6-year-old gelded son of Tribal Rule captured the $38,850 Bienvenidos, the feature event for Turf Paradise’s opening day.

Owned by TG Racing LLC and Peter Giannakopoulos and trained by Robertino Diodoro, Rule by Force lagged well back early in the 6 1/2-furlong event for 3-year-olds and up, but under Jorge Carreno mounted his charge into the lane and powered home while well wide to catch Bonboni, the 8-5 favorite, and win by a length. Bonboni was coming off a string of strong races in the Northwest, stalked the pace, surged to a clear lead by midstretch and looked the winner until Rule by Force came storming past. Trip the General sat back, made a smart run into the lane and stayed on for third in the field of 11.

Rule by Force ran the distance in 1:16.95 and paid $29.40 for the upset. The winner’s share of $23,310 pushes his career bankroll to $228,648 from 13 wins in 35 starts.

*The dazzling 2-year-old filly Page Springs won her trial for the ATBA Sales Stakes by 14 3/4 lengths. She is undefeated in four starts and trained by Dan McFarlane. The ATBA Sales Stakes finale is Oct. 16.
