Turf Paradise: Page Springs wires Princess of Palms

PHOENIX -  After her form tailed off back East, Page Springs returned to the Turf Paradise where she got her career off to such a marvelous start, and the home cooking did the trick as the 3-year-old filly got back on track to capture Saturday's $35,000 Princess of Palms.

A daughter of Rocky Bar owned by the Sawyer Cattle company and trained by Dan McFarlane, Page Springs was sent off the 7-5 second choice in the six-furlong event for fillies and mares. She blasted out to a 6 1/2-length lead through a sizzling first quarter of 21.08 seconds, was still that far in front after a half-mile in 44.21, and was able to cruise home an easy winner even though the field closed the gap. Under Anne Von Rosen, she finished 2 1/4 lengths ahead of Scherzi, who rallied from last for second in the field of six. Lasso From El Paso, the 6-5 favorite, chased the winner from the start and tired a bit from those efforts, finishing third.

Page Spring paid $4.80 and ran the distance in 1:11.83. The winner's share of $21,483 gives her career earnings of $171,720 from 6 wins in 12 starts. She is now 5 for 6 at Turf Paradise.
