Turf Paradise: Page Springs romps in closing-day ATBA Sales Stakes

Email

Page Springs, a dominant 13 1/4-length winner of her debut at Turf Paradise on April 22, had no trouble backing up that huge win as the 2-year-old daughter of Rocky Bar easily captured the $54,914 ATBA Sales Stakes on Sunday, the closing-day feature at the Phoenix track.

Owned by the Sawyer Cattle Company and trained by Dan McFarlane, Page Springs bounced right out to a clear early lead and never had an anxious moment. She was six lengths clear on the far turn, seven lengths clear in midstretch, and reported home seven lengths in front under Cassie Papineau while under wraps. Hot on Top sat midpack and rallied to be a clear second, though she was never a threat to the winner. Az Ridge rallied to finish third in the field of 12 going five furlongs on the main track.

Page Springs ran the distance in 56.56 seconds and as the heavy 1-9 favorite she paid $2.20. The winner’s share of $30,508 pushes her career earnings to $31,768 from two wins in as many starts

Racing in Arizona moves to Yavapai Downs, about 1 1/2 hours north of Phoenix, in Prescott Valley, beginning May 28 and running through Sept. 6. Turf Paradise reopens for its lengthy 2011-2012 meet in the fall.
