Turf Paradise: Jaws 'n Paws best of trio in Princess of Palms

Email

Jaws n’ Paws dominated Saturday’s $35,000 Princess of Palms Handicap at Turf Paradise, though the sprint for fillies and mares  was decimated by scratches as an original field of six was reduced to just three.

That didn’t matter to Jaws n’ Paws. Owned Stateside Racing and trained by Robertino Diodoro, the 5-year-old Jaws n’ Paws  dueled early with Teryns Song, got the better of that rival down the backstretch, quickly opened up a three-length lead on the turn, extended it to seven into the lane,  and romped home to win by 9 1/4 lengths under Jorge Carreno. Given Episode ran on for second, 13 1/2 lengths of Teryns Song, the 1-2 favorite who gave way readily to finish last of the three.

Jaws n’ Paws ran six furlongs  in 1:09.33 and paid $4. The winner’s share of $21,700 gives her career earnings of $226,920 from 10 wins in 24 starts.
