Turf Paradise: California shipper Earnednevergiven dangerous in Caballos del Sol

PHOENIX – A couple of the top Arizona sprinters, Trip the General and Bonboni, must deal with Southern California raider Earnednevergiven in Saturday’s $35,000 Caballos del Sol at Turf Paradise. A field of eight is entered for the six-furlong event.

Earnednevergiven, trained by Robertino Diodoro, invades from Southern California, where he has been facing tough company, primarily on turf. While six of his eight wins have come on grass, Earnednevergiven has also won on fast dirt. In his last dirt start he ran third in the Governor’s Cup Handicap at Fairplex on Sept. 21. Since then, Earnednevergiven ran fifth in a strong optional claiming turf sprint at Santa Anita on Oct. 22 and third in a $50,000 claiming turf sprint there Nov. 3. Jorge Carreno has the call.

Trip the General, trained by Molly Pearson, has posted six of his eight wins on this track, including a tally in his most recent start Nov. 20 over optional claimers. He won a stakes at Arapahoe in June and ran third in the Bienvenidos here opening day Oct. 1. Adolfo Morales has the mount.

Bonboni ran second in the Bienvenidos for trainer Robert Henson. The 5-year-old Bonboni is winless in five starts here but that strong Bienvenidos run shows he handles this surface. He’s back to dirt and sprinting after running fifth in the Walter Cluer at a mile on the turf here Oct. 29. Bonboni showed his quality by winning a stakes at Hastings Park on Sept. 11.

Danzing Tribal, like Earnednevergiven, is trained by Diodoro and he comes here sharp, having won three of his last four; Absolutely Cool was a good second in the Coyote Handicap here last March for trainer Valorie Lund.
