Tuesday evening services for Vazquez

Services for Juan Vazquez, the exercise rider killed in a spill at Belmont Park last Friday, will be held 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Elmont Funeral Home, 1529 Hempstead Turnpike in Elmont, NY.

Vazquez, 39, was killed after a horse he was working in the morning ducked into the rail and threw the rider.

My sincere condolences to Juan's family and friends. We never hear much about these exercise riders and to learn of them under these tragic circumstances is awful. I would hope that there is some type of insurance or help for his family from NYRA or other jockey organizations that help when jocks are injured. I cannot imagine anything worse could happen to his family and I am praying for them now. There should be some sort of fund set up to help his family if there isn't already one. What say ye DRF and NYRA?

Good call Jack. In general the Chaplains at each track step up in a big way at times like this. Prayers for the Family too.
