Keeneland
Raven Run (race 9)

Gypsy Robin, freshened and dropping since a smart 2nd to top-class Contested in the Grade 1 Test at Saratoga Aug. 25, had no trouble dominating the proceedings here, and in doing so validated her love of this track as she’s now 3 for 3 here. She went right out to the lead as the favorite, set solid splits while staying well off the inside and taking some pressure from Monono, kicked clear into the lane and didn’t have a nervous moment thereafter. She’s dominated in her 3 wins here, winning by 7 1/2, 3 and now 4 lengths. Sacristy, 2nd to Gypsy Robin in the Grade 2 Beaumont here April 15, ran well but found that foe far too tough again as she sat midpack and finished with good energy, though she was never a threat to the winner. Drama Drama was far back early, still far back turning for home but put in a strong rally to get 3rd, though she was never a threat. Assateague, making her first start on synthetic after racing only on turf, sat midpack and made minimal headway. Southern California raiders Killer Graces and Via Villaggio were both well back from the start and never a factor.

Santa Anita
Sen. Ken Maddy (race 8)

Broken Dreams won this last year and successfully defended her title, but there were some anxious moments. She was content to sit 2nd while Kindle bounded off to a long lead, was still 2nd while that foe remained 5 lengths clear in midstretch, but came home smartly to reel in that rival and edge past in the final strides. Kindle shot out to a clear lead and set sizzling splits, was still far in front by midstretch and looked like the winner until she shortened stride in the final furlong and couldn’t fend off the winner. Byrama, the favorite, was well back early and finished strongly but just ran out of ground. Teroda stalked the pace while seemingly in a good spot but didn’t muster the needed run in the lane.
