Email

Tricky Temper used her good speed to upset heavily favored Dandy Dora in the $80,870 Mount Royal Stakes for 3-year-old fillies at Northlands Park on Sunday.

With Desmond Bryan aboard, Tricky Temper battled with Belong Again for the first half-mile through honest fractions of 23.40 and 46.60. She took the lead on the stretch turn and then easily held off Dandy Dora to win by 1 1/2 lengths.

Tricky Temper, who is trained by Kelly Grieves, paid $32.70.

Dandy Dora, who was sent off as the odds-on favorite, lost a lot of ground on both turns and then closed well in the stretch to get up for second. Belong Again held on to finish third.

Final time for the six furlongs was 1:13.40. An Alberta-bred, Tricky Temper earned $60,870 for her owners and breeders, Bar None Ranches Ltd. Included in the money earned was a $30,870 bonus for Alberta-breds.

On Saturday, Robo Willie won the $50,000 President's Stakes by a half-length over 5-2 favorite Casey's On Call.

Ridden by Rickey Walcott, Robo Willie stalked the pace set by Rumble Ruckus for the first quarter-mile. He made his bid at the quarter pole and then was all out to hold off Casey's On Call. Robo Willie, who is trained by Greg Tracy paid $10.70.

A wide trip may have cost Casey's On Call his first stakes win. Breaking from post 7, Casey's On Call ended up racing three wide the whole way. Final time for the six-furlongs was 1:12.60.
