Tribal Belle solidifies Sovereign credentials

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Tribal Belle seemingly wrapped up the Sovereign Award for Canada's champion female sprinter with her victory in Sunday's $156,500 at Woodbine.

Tribal Belle ($3.60) tracked the leaders on the outside in the seven-furlong sprint, as 37-1 shot Silver Z set fractions of 22.39 and 45.30 seconds.

Tribal Belle hit the front exiting the turn, and then held a game Silver Z at bay through the stretch to prevail by a half-length, in a time of 1:22.29. Smart Surprise rallied wide to edge out Glitter Rox for third in the 10-horse field.

Jim McAleney rode Tribal Belle for trainer Terry Jordan.

"It worked out really well today," said McAleney. "All the speed was inside of us, and she sat and stalked. This filly just wants to win. She gives everything that she's got."

For winning her third consecutive stakes, Tribal Belle banked $90,000 for Canvasback Farm.
