Trial winners clash in Lassie

AURORA, Colo. - Slew's Bet and Dazzling Blu Skies, impressive winners of their trial runs, will face off in the $25,000 Colorado Breeders Lassie Stakes on Monday at Arapahoe Park. The field for the six-furlong sprint comprises the 10 Colorado-bred 2-year-old fillies who qualified in the trials.

Slew's Bet recorded the best time of 1:11.26 in the trials here on June 25 and will likely be a slight favorite. Trained by Jon Arnett, she was never headed in her trial and won by 8 1/2 widening lengths. In her career debut on June 4, she was beaten a half-length by Dazzling Blu Skies.

Slew's Bet, by Evansville Slew, will again be ridden by Travis Wales, and will break from post 9. She is owned by Harry Veruchi.

Dazzling Blu Skies won her trial in handy fashion by five lengths in 1:12.44. A daughter of Petionville, she is trained by Kenneth Gleason for the Tangarae Farms.

Dazzling Blu Skies will break from the outside post and will have Orlando Martinez back in the irons as she seeks to remain undefeated after winning her first two career starts.

Olivers Rivulet and Cindy's Melody are capable of upsetting the top choices. Both fared well in their career debuts, finishing second in their respective trials. Olivers Rivulet was second to Dazzling Blu Skies and Cindy's Melody to Slew's Bet.
