Travel Plans upsets at Delaware

Travel Plans, the longest shot on the board, battled for the lead on the turn, opened a half-length advantage in midstretch, then held off three rivals who were all gaining on her at the wire to win the $75,000 Sweet and Sassy for fillies and mares at Delaware Park.

Ridden by Kendrick Carmouche, Travel Plans hit the wire a neck ahead of 15-1 shot Amandatude with Summer Cruise a nose back in third and Miss Elsie another half-length behind in fourth.

It was the first stakes win for Travel Plans, who improved her record to 3 wins, 2 seconds, and a third in 8 starts for owner Liberty Stable.

Wild Gams, the even-money favorite, raced sixth of seven on the backside and ended up last.

Travel Plans ran the six furlongs in 1:10.11 on a fast track and paid $48.60.

The victory was the first this year for Travel Plans's trainer, Sandra Slivka. Her last winner was on Dec. 27 at Calder, in a first-level allowance race, with Travel Plans.
