Moonshine Mullin, a Grade 1 winner who has been in training at Oaklawn, recently had a splint bone removed, trainer Randy Morse said on Saturday. There is an outside chance that the horse could be ready for the Grade 2, $600,000 Oaklawn Handicap on April 11, but Morse said he will not rush Moonshine Mullin. “It’s a long year,” said Morse. Moonshine Mullin won the Stephen Foster Handicap at Churchill Downs in his last start June 14. He also captured the track’s Grade 2 Alysheba in May. The races are part of the horse’s current five-race winning streak that started last season at Oaklawn. Moonshine Mullin races for Randy Patterson. • Kenny Smith, a past title winner at Oaklawn who trained Silver Goblin, is approaching a career milestone, according to a release issued by Equibase. Smith heads into Thursday’s card at Oaklawn with 994 career training wins in North America.
