Trainer Tim McCanna notched the 2,000th victory of his career Friday when Whiskey Prince captured the third race at Golden Gate Fields. Frank Alvarado rated Whiskey Prince ($8.60) in third in the six-furlong race for $12,500 claimers. He made a three-wide move to get the lead in the stretch and won the race by one length over Pazcatch in 1:10.75. McCanna, a native of Spokane, Wash., settled in Northern California in 2012 after splitting time between Northern California and Washington. He still has a small string of horses at Emerald Downs for Seattle-based owners. McCanna is a member of the Washington Racing Hall of Fame and has won 10 training titles at Emerald Downs. He was also the leading trainer at Playfair from 1982-85. The victory wasn’t the only news McCanna made in the race. He also claimed fourth-place finisher Anointed Waters for Patrick LePley, who also owns Whiskey Prince.
