Trainer dies in crash


A memorial service for veteran trainer Tom Knight will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the Top of the Stretch Room at Golden Gate Fields.

Knight died in a traffic accident on Thursday. He was 76.

Knight, a native of New Mexico, had trained in northern California since 1975. His top Thoroughbred was the multiple stakes winner Today a Star. Knight also trained top Appaloosas Drum and Fife, winner of the 1978 Pomona Futurity, and Quadraporte, winner of the 1987 California Appaloosa Derby.
