Trainer booked in molestation

The Louisiana-based trainer Bradley Cathey has been booked by the St. Tammany (La.) Parrish sheriff's office on charges of molesting three girls between the ages of 8 and 11 at his farm near Folsom, La.

The New Orleans Times-Picayune reported that Cathey was booked June 28 following an investigation that had begun two days earlier. A relative of one of the girls told authorities that Cathey had fondled the girl while she spent the night on his farm.

Cathey, 70, was previously convicted of conspiring to import illegal aliens, a felony for which he served jail time, and on another occasion of illegal possession of the drugs Dilaudid and Demerol. That felony conviction resulted in a suspended sentence and cost Cathey his trainer's license in 1986, but he was reinstated in 1990 and continues to operate a public stable. Cathey won the Fair Grounds training title in 1996-1997.
