Trainer Alfredo Velazquez scored his 1,000th career victory Tuesday when Rosie My Way won the first race at Parx. Velazquez, a 71-year-old native of Puerto Rico, has been training since 1984. He has a 15 percent win average and purse earnings of more than $15.8 million. In 2014, he won the Grade 1 Cigar Mile and Grade 1 Vosburgh with Private Zone, whom he trained that season for Good Friends Stable, which is managed by Velazquez's longtime friend Rene Douglas. Velazquez also trained Traffic Light, a winner of 10 of 29 starts and $613,000 between 2011 and the end of last year. Traffic Light won stakes at Parx in 2012, 2013, and 2014. Seven-pound apprentice Lane Luzzi was aboard Rosie My Way, who won the $7,500 claiming race by three-quarters of a length. Velazquez is based the year at Parx, where he has won 765 races.
