Tracy has pair in first Alberta 2-year-old race

EDMONTON, Alberta - Trainer Greg Tracy has dominated the juvenile division at this meet the past two seasons and is aiming for further success by saddling two starters in the first 2-year-old race of the Alberta season on Sunday afternoon.

For the first time, there were no "baby" races at this year's spring meet at Stampede Park, because of poor weather. The late start of 2-year-old racing is a concern, as the July 9 Edmonton Juvenile and July 11 Princess Margaret are just over the horizon.

Tracy saddles the uncoupled pair of Robo Willie and Captain's Court in Sunday's first race, which drew just five entrants, including the filly Curls and Pearls.

The 5 1/2-furlong maiden race serves as a prep for the two upcoming stakes, both slated for six furlongs.

Robo Willie, a half-brother to last year's Princess Margaret winner, Littlemiss Allison, was bred and raised by Stan Ryan, who campaigned her dam, Fancy Prancer, with Tracy.

Robo Willie has a strong and steady work tab, with eight works listed at Stampede Park. He drew post 2 with Rickey Walcott up.

Captain's Court has seven listed works. He drew post 4 with Stephan Heiler aboard.

* Banjo Babe, coming off a third-place finish in the 1 1/16-mile Duchess of York at Stampede Park last weekend, heads a field of six fillies and mares in Sunday's feature. The one-mile optional claimer offers a purse of $21,800.
