Tracy goes for repeat in Bird of Pay

EDMONTON, Alberta - Kaylee's Magic attempts to gain revenge for her recent Sale Stakes defeat when she faces six rivals at Northlands Park in Saturday's $50,000 Bird of Pay for 2-year-old fillies at 6 1/2 furlongs.

Trained by Greg Tracy, who won last year's Bird of Pay with Miss Venturous, Kaylee's Magic suffered a neck loss to Tartan Star in the Sale Stakes for the first blot on her young career. The 3-5 favorite, Kaylee's Magic ran down pace-setting Elusive Storm and took a two-length lead into the stretch. She shortened stride late, however, and was unable to withstand Tartan Star's charge.

Prior to the Sales Stakes, Kaylee's Magic went wire to wire when debuting in a maiden special weights affair, and then won the Princess Margaret by 6 1/2 lengths.

Rickey Walcott will ride Kaylee's Magic for the first time.

Tartan Star, fourth in the Princess Margaret, faces Kaylee's Magic again on Saturday. Stephan Heiler will have the return mount on Tartan Star, who is trained by Sid Gray, after riding her for the first time in the Sales Stakes.

Mia Cat Dancer, a Kentucky-bred trained by Ernie Keller and with Quincy Welch up, appears to be a formidable adversary after winning her six-furlong debut by 1 3/4 lengths as a 6-5 choice.

Also coming off a victory is Joyfull Wind, a California-bred from the Dale Saunders stable. Joyfull Wind will be ridden by Ron Blinston.
