The smallest field among the graded stakes Saturday at Santa Anita will be the Zenyatta Stakes for fillies and mares over 1 1/16 miles. Beholder, the two-time champion, will be a heavy favorite against Iotapa, Tiz Midnight, and stablemate Tiz the Key.
The Grade 1 FrontRunner Stakes on Saturday at Santa Anita can confirm American Pharoah’s status as a top 2-year-old, and move him closer to a potential start in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile on Nov. 1.

On Saturday at Santa Anita, Beholder worked seven furlongs in 1:24.60, her final major exercise before she starts as a heavy favorite in the $300,000 Zenyatta Stakes for fillies and mares over 1 1/16 miles next Saturday.
Fashion Plate, the winner of two Grade 1 race for 3-year-old fillies at Santa Anita earlier this year, will not race before she is offered for sale in Kentucky in November, trainer Simon Callaghan said.
Masochistic, second in the Los Alamitos Mile on Sept. 6, could make his next start in the $200,000 Bold Ruler Stakes at Belmont Park on Oct. 25, trainer A.C. Avila said.

Santa Anita is adding two racing days to its upcoming autumn meeting – Thursday, Oct. 16, and Wednesday, Oct. 29, track president Tom Ludt said Friday.
Alex Canchari, the leading rider at Hawthorne Racecourse on the Chicago circuit last fall, will ride in Southern California beginning Sept. 26.
Santa Anita’s new racetrack has been well received by trainers since it was installed in late summer. The track has been used for training since early September and will be tested in racing for the first time Sept. 26 on the opening-day program.
Shared Belief, considered the early favorite for the Breeders’ Cup Classic on Nov. 1, will be part of a small field for his Santa Anita debut in the $300,000 Awesome Again Stakes on Sept. 27.

Shared Belief stayed on target for the Grade 1 Awesome Again Stakes on Sept. 27 at Santa Anita with a six-furlong work Tuesday at Golden Gate Fields.
