Mia Torri, a 4-year-old filly by General Quarters, went wire to wire to win the $100,000 Sugar Maple, a two-turn, seven-furlong race and the richest undercard stakes on the Charles Town Classic program.
It wasn't easy, but Imperative won his second Charles Town Classic on Saturday and jockey Javier Castellano won his third.
Jockey John Velazquez settled Cool Arrow just off the tepid favorite Liar's Dice early in the Robert Hilton Memorial, a seven-furlong race for 3-year-olds. He moved up to challenge for the lead three wide and then pulled away to win by 3 1/2 lengths.
