Despite all American Pharoah’s obvious strengths, I would counsel casual fans and serious players not to bet him – except possibly for a $2 souvenir ticket on what might be history’s 12th sweep of the Triple Crown.
Bored to death with the whole idea of the Triple Crown in the wilderness since Affirmed won it in 1978? Can’t stand the suspense, now that another Belmont Stakes has arrived with the promise of a Triple Crown looming large?

Can American Pharoah win the Belmont Stakes and become the first winner of the American Triple Crown since Affirmed in 1978? Of course he can, but he’s a very bad bet to do so at 3-5.
Prior to the Kentucky Derby, more people picked American Pharoah than any other horse. Prior to the Preakness, just about everybody picked American Pharoah. This week, hardly anyone I talk with is picking American Pharoah to win the Belmont Stakes.
